THE EMPORDÀ BY BICYCLE

I do not recommend summer for a number of reasons, chiefly because it is our peak holiday season and that means crowds of tourists virtually everywhere. Also it can be pretty hot and that means uncomfortable cycling.
As for the rest of the year we have none of these discomforts to worry about plus the weather is almost perfect for cycling – with yes, the occasional Tramontana or windy day.
To make things more enjoyable the extensive network of bicycle lanes and peaceful paved and unpaved back-roads, allows one to feel relaxed and fully enjoy the experience of cycling. The terrain for the most part, is quite flat, meaning anyone able to pedal and maintain a conversation at the same time can take part on this great tour.

*Note that this tour as been specially designed for cyclists using Brompton or other outstanding folding bicycles!

The Empordà, a mere sixty minutes drive north of Barcelona, is conveniently close to the big city and yet when one arrives there the overwhelming feeling is one of being in the middle of nowhere. This is the heart of charming and unspoiled Catalan countryside.

The activity includes:

• Transfer - by one of our Mercedes Benz minivans - from your hotel in Barcelona to the beautiful village of Fontclara, in the Empordà region.
  
• Accommodation in a private apartment, housed in lovely XVIII century restored farm house or Masia (up to five people and includes breakfast).
  
• Friday’s dinner.
  
• Saturday’s lunch, en route.
  
• Accommodation in typical Hostal, very peaceful, and right on the beach of Torroella de Montgrí (includes breakfast).
  
• Saturday’s especial gourmet dinner.

Not included:

• Rental of Brompton or other folding bicycles. Please, bring your own!
• The transport of personal luggage. When cycling you are required to carry your own. Pack lightly!
